<![CDATA[Orange County Wine Competition - "Gemini" Late-Harvest Zinfandel Silver Medal]]>Wed, 10 Jul 2019 07:00:00 GMThttp://karinewinescom.ipage.com/press--media/orange-county-wine-competition-gemini-late-harvest-zinfandel-silver-medalPicture
This summer our Late Harvest Zinfandel 'Gemini' VPS was awarded the silver medal in the high-premium price category. Going up against the most expensive California dessert wines and judged by only California winemakers (who also craft the sticky stuff for themselves), we are honored to have received the silver medal in such a tough category and scrupulous judges.
Thanks to our Grower and Friend, Kent and Betsey Smith for providing us with the ingredients to make such a fantastic dessert wine with purpose and prestige.

Cheers,
All proceeds of this wine go to Emmeline's college fund....

<![CDATA[Fall is Here]]>Mon, 23 Sep 2013 17:40:07 GMThttp://karinewinescom.ipage.com/press--media/fall-is-here
With a burst of wind and some rain, the new season begins. Harvesting of our 2013 wine is complete and all lots are nestled safely in the winery. We now reflect on the year and focus on our fermentations and newly arrived must. It is at this time that we thank the powers that be that all our fruit is off the vine and that we have escaped our second year for Karine unscathed.

Not such is the case with every other winery in the area. Westbrook Wine Farm experienced tree damage in the historic Fait Accompli vineyard during the wind and rain storm that furiously blew through this past weekend. Thankfully all fruit has been harvested due to an earlier than normal year, but the damage to approximately two rows is done. Being such a prestigious and quality vineyard for the area, I believe we all in the Madera County Foothills felt the shudder when we heard the news. A couple varieties still on the vine at Love Ranch Vineyard will be watched closely as late season moisture is never welcomed.

All said and done, we can now look to our winemaking and grape quality we have in the winery to provide the best Madera County has to offer. This year will be an exciting year as I have chosen to focus only on two white wines this year, Malvasia Bianca and Chenin Blanc. These two varieties both are sourced from good friend and winegrower, Loren Freeman. The perfume of the Malvasia and delicate floral aroma of the Chenin Blanc are still lingering in the air at the winey. Fermented in barrel, both varieties will be delicate styles, with the Chenin Blanc being full bodied, yet strongly mineral driven, while the Malvasia will be more aromatic and crisp (I like to call it al dente). These darling little wines will spend the next 8-9 months in the same cooperage and will be bottled sometime late next year, 2014. Until then please look for our 2012 Karine Viognier, Love Ranch Vineyard release this fall 2013. Cheers!
